I decided to take a stab at the “lighttpd”:http://www.lighttpd.net/logo-contest/ logo. I went for a little less rigidness than the others, but there are some nice looking logos in the contest. Really digging the lightbulb!

I liked the lightbulb too, as well as the top one – the minimalist stylized rays of light. Nice in a symbolic sense.

The light bulb thing just doesn’t work for me. It seems to me that since:

1) Apache’s logo is a “fallen” feather…

2) Apache has become so incredibly fat and heavy….

3) Lighttpd attracts users because it is light, lean, and mean httpd daemon…

4) That 1-3 above offers opportunity for play on the “Light as a feather really ought to be” concept. Like floating feather rather than a sunken one. Different enough to be clearly distinct from the Apache logo but sort of an inside joke for those who “get it”.

Just an idea. I’m no graphics designer so feel free to run with it if you like. Just tell ‘em it was all Gundee’s fault….;-)
