Sourceforge goes CSS

Following in the footsteps of another monumental site, Sourceforge has gone CSS. It’s strange because I was just griping (to myself) about how clunky Sourceforge and Rubyforge feel.

I haven’t seen anyHere is the formal announcement of this, perhaps I missed it. Here is the details from Sourceforge. I wonder what other sites might follow suit? It seems that big people are taking notice that interface design and web standards matter. This is a great thing.

It is certainly cleaner than the previous design. The white on gray headings are a difficult to read though.

You can say that moving to CSS helped both of these sites dramatically. It don’t take 2 minutes to load these sites. Its a matter of seconds now which is nice. These sites are also a great way to begin encouraging standards and setting examples for alot of other big name sites.

By the way, I noticed sourceforge had a new design, but it didn’t hit me – CSS. Until I read your post, thanks.

I truly hate the RubyForge for its design. At one point I was going to go as far as creating my Firefox plugin to overwrite its CSS. But then I got new clients… and never used the site again.
